The Inevitable

It was only a matter of time before his calm, simple and serene sleeping positions would diminish and make way for Mom and Dad's sleeping methods...

Walkie Talkie Baby

With Jaden's first teeth already coming in, taking his first "assisted" steps, and giggling while having his diaper changed -- I feel like it's going by so fast. Here are some pics taken tonight. He was distracting me from "Iron Man" with his cuteness to the point of me picking up the camera.
Playing with his new Christmas Present

One small step for Jaden...

He's probably imagining himself as a big monster, walking about in the city.

"Did you see me walk Dad?"

...told you! They grow up so fast don't they?

I'm dreaming of a...

....White Christmas!

It was a truly wonderful first Christmas for Jaden has he slept, burped, farted, cried and smiled his way through the season.

Apparently pictures are worth a thousand words, so here's my essay:

Hospital Visit

The story in a nutshell:

Jaden has had a fairly plugged nose since two weeks after birth. Over the course of the last two weeks he's run the occasional, low fever. The walk-in clinic (our doctor wasn't in that day) prescribed him antibiotics; they didn't work. Two days ago, my wife takes him to the doctor and receives a requisition for a chest x-ray. Yesterday morning he gets the x-ray (a traumatic experience for our little one) and we receive a call from our doctor later that day.

"He has a bronchial infection, if his condition gets worse, take him to emergency".

His condition got worse, so we did just that.

It was a quiet night, in fact when we arrived, we were the only ones in the waiting room. But despite this, the triage nurse was quick to give us the classic "your baby sure looks fine to me" line. Everyone knows that the moment you want a doctor to check you out, your symptoms hide around the corner, right?

I knew from that moment that we were just wasting our time. I hate being right about that sort of thing. After checking his heart rate three times, they checked his blood/oxygen level. Tell me if this next part makes any sense to you:

They confirmed that his oxygen level is at 99%, which apparently is great. Then they proceeded to give him an oxygen mask with some medicine (essentially a "puffer") and said "we'll be back in ten minutes." After this, they hooked him up to an all-too-familiar mechanism....

"Excuse me", I asked, after Jaden's mask had been removed and us sitting around for ten minutes. "Should we be waiting here, or are we free to go?"

"No, they're just waiting to get some pending test results back, but his blood/oxygen levels are now showing at 99%, so he should be fine." There ended up being no more test results, that was all they were checking.

So, let me get this straight, we spent two hours going from "his oxygen levels are great" to "let's give him oxygen" to "his oxygen levels are great, our work is done here."

Ladies and gentlemen....the Placebo Effect.
Fortunately, purely based on the doctor examining Jaden's breathing, he prescribed us a four-day puffer for Jaden. I still don't know what this puffer is going to accomplish other than make it easier for him to cope for a brief period.

I was tempted to ask "can we just check his oxygen levels one more time?" But sarcasm gets you nowhere in life, so I just had an inward chuckle.

Christmas Around the Corner

We're pretty much ready to celebrate Christmas as parents for the first time, which seems very surreal to me at the moment. All is well in the Buvyer household and Jaden is a growing boy now weighing in at 13 pounds. Despite this perpetual growth spurt, he's managed to retain his cuteness, complete with double chin and beautiful smile.
Never a dull moment when the cousins get together...

Hallelujah!

A Funny Joke for Ya'

Did you hear the one about the husband who didn't look hard enough for the camera?
Well, now that we've got my pride out of the way, here are some more pictures!

I think I'm smiling....Thank you Auntie Cara and Uncle Adrien for the cool sweater!Yes, Daddy's proud of the Buvyer "sleep" gene.

iPhone Saves the Day

Well thanks to the wonders of technology I was able to get a great shot of my little boy despite not having our actual camera within reach. He's getting so big now. Last night was his first night sleeping alone in his room. I don't know who had the greater separation anxiety....Jaden or my wife. Angela turned to me with tears in her eyes saying, "He's been with me every night for the last eleven months!"

Well, since you put it that way, I guess it would be difficult.

Lost and Found

Well, it would seem we've temporarily misplaced our camera which, of course, contains many photos that should be up on this blog by now. In the meantime, for your viewing pleasure.....a picture of a llama!!!

Best Smile....EVER!!!

I can't begin to describe how excited I feel to know that I have the ability to make my son smile! The first five weeks of his life were leaving us with a nervous uncertainty, knowing that he might not be happy. It's amazing how much a simple smile can change all of that. It makes me think about people in general; we seem to gauge a lot by smiles don't we?

Not meaning to brag but...

Look what my baby can do!

He's growing too quickly!

Our little baby isn't so little anymore! We haven't weighed him yet, but he must be over the ten-pound mark now. Fortunately for Mommy and I, he's still cute as a button.

Sorry that we haven't been taking many pics lately; he's had a hard time breathing as a result of his plugged nose and therefore not usually in a "Kodak moment" mood.

It looks like Jaden's starting to smile (barely) but it's hard to tell. I can't wait to hear him giggle when I tickle him, after all, that's a dad's job right?

There's a little redneck in all of us...

Well, Jeff Foxworthy would be proud.

We hit the KFC drive-thru tonight for our "romantic" celebration. Yep, it's our 4th anniversary tonight. We went all out and rented some movies and even thought about buying each other gifts!

Part of me really, really wants to sweep my beautiful wife off her feet and take her somewhere far away and romantic but....

These pictures help convey the reason why we're just fine with settling for deep-fried chicken, at least for a while ;)
The cool "denim" look; it's all the rage right now....

The infamous nose-nibble...

Beyond my wildest dreams!

His beauty? His cuteness? Well, yes, these things also have passed the outer-reaches of my imagination. But the title of this blog is owed to a much fouler trait that seems to be intrinsically part of my son:

The ability to crap on things from a distance with stunning trajectory and force.

I thought Jaden's short-term goal of clearing the change table with his fecal matter was quite enough. I get it son, you're a young boy with talent. But now the dishwasher? This is just too much. Granted, a dishwasher is much easier to clean than the nursery walls.

Can I please select "none of the above" for next time?

By the way, our son, who was sporting his "birthday suit" at the time, was about to be bathed in the kitchen. I'm sure you can figure out the rest.

So, aside from a crappy evening (you saw it coming), our son is still cuter than ever. Scratch that, as I typed this sentence, Jaden literally just puked on Mommy.

Ok, so he was cute last night....at Grandma and Grandpa's place. Here's some pictures to prove it!

Playtime

Mommy caught me playing with Jaden. I felt inspired to sing some ridiculous song to him. Good thing he's too young to remember this!

So peaceful...

The Boy is Hungry!

Hello everyone.

Jaden has now recovered his birth weight and then some. He's now weighed in (as of Monday morning) at 9 lbs. 4 oz. Not bad I'd say. And his cuteness level shot up about 4 points.

And best of all, he's learned how to feed the traditional way!

As a new Dad, it's been interesting finding ways to stay connected with friends whilst not leaving the house. Jamie and I have decided to share our learning and thoughts via shared-blogs. When we're not talking politics here, or defining culture here, we're discussing quantum physics here!

I miss my friends, but family comes first and Jaden's a great excuse for them to come here more often!

Without further delay, some more pictures!

No Mommy, don't let him take my picture!Oh why not? Hi Daddy!
